puppy!

In support of the dh, I've taken a complete leave of my senses and rescued a labradoodle puppy. Here he is, as yet unnamed. His foster family called him Houdini, because he liked to escape. That's pretty good but we're looking for other options. Any suggestions?

Oooh! Oooh! We're thinking about getting a labradoodle!

Did you get one because of allergies? Is the dog smart like a poodle or dumb like a lab?

I found this labradoodle on petfinder; it was a rescue pup. I was VERY lucky to find it and pay essentially just for their expenses (shots, microchip, spaying, food, etc.) It's not an uber-snotty expensive Australian labradoodle (his mom is a poodle; dad is a labradoodle).

It does look more like a lab but his littermates were evenly split between curly poodle coats and straight/wavy lab coats. So far, he doesn't shed; it wouldn't matter to me if he did.

They were all VERY lovable. They're supposed to be smart; he seems smart enough and quietly curious. Playful, though, like a lab.

It was kismet, how I got this guy.

Where are you looking?

We're not officially looking yet, and our dog requirements are difficult. We need a non-allergen dog for my wife, and a calm dog for my daughter, and ideally a dog that can run a few miles with me. Labradoodles seemed like they potentially met the criteria, although I'm not convinced on the allergy issue (which is the most important one)

What was left from this litter of pups were all very gentle, with one dominant, who tended to nibble more. Other than that, they were all very calm and loving.

This one is pretty happy and mellow; not sure if he's just acclimating or what. But he gets very energetic once he's outside.

Hasn't shed at all. Not at all. I don't think anyone can guarantee they're 100% hypoallergenic, but they're moreso than a lot of other breeds.

This thing's going to be BIG though. Maybe 70-80 pounds. They're a big breed, although you can get them smaller, I think, if they use a smaller poodle for breeding. Is that an issue?

I have no idea. Will it be able to sit in the backseat of a VW Passat sedan with a kid?

I guess it depends on the breeding. I think they can get as tall as a standard poodle, but may be a little stockier, like a lab.

But they're supposedly very smart, so if it had to sit, it would sit, regardless.

Maybe you might consider a smaller cockapoo. Hell, the poodle's a regular slut, they breed it with everything now.

Hey, poodles have feelings too! Not everyone that has random mixed-breed sex is a slut you know.

The Airedale is one of the more non-allergenic breeds and could probably run 10 miles with you; but if you want "calm" try a female runt. We've had extremely obedient and relatively calm to totally ignores everything you say and bounces off the walls. But extremely loyal and loving and protective.
ps, I proved the allergy thing with my father who had tb, has asthma, allergies and runs on about 40% lung power. He never had a problem with any of my Airedales.
